Setting up a Budget

While we all know it is the best way to keep track of our money, many people find it extremely difficult to make a household budget and stick to it. Working out a budget is a great start for anyone who is looking to regain control of their finances. You’ll need to draw up a list of all your income and expenses and, if you’re looking to cut costs, do some background work including getting Pennsylvania insurance quotes, comparisons from utility suppliers and information from your bank about different credit options.

Here are a few suggestions to help you work out your budget:

•    Track your spending over a period of a week or a month. Note everything you buy, down to the last cent.
•    Gather together all your pay stubs, bank statements and work out what your income is. Include anything you might receive from outside sources such as investments or bank interest.
•    Go through your bills and calculate your essential outgoings on a weekly or monthly basis.
•    Once you have deducted your outgoings from your income you will hopefully be left with some extra which you can allocate to savings or other non-essential expenses of your choice.

By doing your research and finding the most cost effective solutions for your essential outgoings you can make positive changes to your financial situation. Information is power, and those Pennsylvania insurance quotes, comparisons and alternative credit options can help you draw up a sustainable budget – you may still have room for the odd bit of retail therapy too!
