You may have heard about household inventories, but you might not realize why it is useful to have one of your own. Businesses all do inventory, and if you assumed that this was for stocktaking and taxation purposes, you’d be right. However, a household inventory can also be invaluable if you need to claim on your Pennsylvania home insurance policy.

A household inventory is a catalogue of all your valuables and can include everything from the furniture to sporting equipment and personal items like jewelry. It can be very useful to include pictures of unique items and if you have valuation certificates for individual items like jewelry, antiques or artworks, they should be kept with the inventory. You should keep the whole inventory with your insurance policies and other important paperwork.

Your inventory could become very useful if you find yourself needing to prove the existence or value of items that you claim. Providing that you have made and maintained your inventory so that all the information, photographs and valuation certificates are up to date, you can supply your Pennsylvania home insurance provider with everything they might need to ascertain the value of the item in question, which would facilitate your claim being processed more smoothly.
